Accuracy

ACCURACY

Like distance throwing, formal accuracy competition is more of a pure test of skill type of game. There are, however, particular strategies which help to produce consistently good scores. Accuracy and golf require much the same type of skills. There is a major difference, however. Golf has no second chances. You must assess the situation, choose your shot and offer it up. If you are wrong, you can take it into account in the next similar situation. Accuracy presents that situation immediately. The great accuracy throwers are capable of immediate and effective adjustment. Each shot affects the throw of the next. For this reason, the timing of the throws is very important. You must be sure to maximize this adjustment procedure. Throwing to quickly won’t allow adequate consideration of each shot – posturing over each throw for a minute lets your body forget what it just did and allows the wind conditions to change. It helps to experiment with different deliveries from the various sites. Some players use up to three different throwing styles. Simplicity is important however. If you find the adjustment difficult, stay with one dependable throw you can get into a groove.

FIELD TARGET

FIELD LAYOUT

FORMAT – Competitor receives four attempts from each throwing line. Any order of attempts is permissible. Total hits out of 28 attempts constitutes competitor’s score. To be counted as a hit, a disc must directly pass entirely through the target.

CONTEST PROCEDURE

First round – cut to 30.

Second round – cut to 5 (place 30
th to 6th by hits in round 2).

Finals – place first to fifth by hits in finals.

Ties for first place should be broken by giving the tied competitors another round. The better mark in that set determines the winner.

STAFFING

Head Judge – calls competitors and registers hits

Target Judge – calls out hits

Disc Return Crew – one behind target, one behind competitor

EQUIPMENT

All discs must be made of conventional material without additional weighting and may not have a rim which is beveled (no heavy, low profile golf discs). Discs of any size may be used as long as they meet the general design code.
